Has fitness queen Kayla Itsines lost her crown? Customers vent their fury over 'disappointing, rip-off' workout app they call 'a slap in the face to her loyal fans'

• The app has been criticised by loyal fans and current members online 
• They say it is too expensive, 'buggy' and includes no new content 
• They also say it doesn't benefit current members of the Bikini Body Guide
• Others have defended it, saying it is a cheap and effective fitness app 
• Ms Itsines has promised to listen to all feedback from fans 

Social media fitness guru Kayla Itsines has legions of loyal and adoring fans and boasts over four million on Instagram alone.

But following the release of her eagerly anticipated Sweat With Kayla app on Sunday, outraged fans have taken to social media to share their disappointment. 

The app was designed by the 24-year-old Australian to transfer her popular Bikini Body Guides to a mobile format, offering weekly coaching, 28-minute workouts, meal plans and new guides for existing members.

'Everything you thought you knew about the BBG has changed! Sweat With Kayla is your training companion and gateway to the largest female fitness community in the world,' Ms Itsines wrote on Instagram.

'I created this for all my #bbg girls as a way to really bring the community together in a new, cheaper way, while experiencing BBG + soooooo much more [sic]!'

The app offers $4.61 per week for the 12 week program (normally $120 for 12 week meal plans), new workouts, categories and recipes.

But 93 of 137 reviews of the app on iTunes are just one star - fans labelling the app as expensive, buggy and frustrating for those who have already purchased the program.

'I've bought two of her programs now and they cost $120 each. But I can't use them in the app unless I pay all over again? It's so unfair, and really she always talks about her community and loving us, but this app isn't for us, it's for her own gain,' a loyal customer and fan, who chose to remain anonymous, told Daily Mail Australia. 

'I'm a HUGE Kayla Itsines fan. I've bought all her plans and follow them to a T, I even lost quite a bit of weight...I think Kayla needs to know it's [the app] not good enough, I mean we all supported her and now she's really big and has kind of forgotten about us.'  

'She did email and offer the first month for $1 but what does that do? She also says that it's cheaper now??? $20 a month is not cheap AT ALL. You can get a gym membership for that.' 

Other disgruntled customers took to iTunes to share their disappointment. 

'This app does not deserve any stars...BBG 3.0 is regurgitated material of BBG1 and BBG2, it even features the same example photos used in the previous 2 guides [sic],' one wrote. 

'We've already given Kayla plenty of $$ for the guides and pricey equipment, so it's a little unfair to even charge members $1 for this (which would still add up quite a bit) [sic],' another said. 

'You offer $1 a month for people who made you a MILLIONAIRE. All of us paying $1 would give you hundreds of thousands of dollars but then you make us pay the normal price for month 2 and month 3 [sic],' another agreed.

Those defending the app said it was 'fantastic' and 'well designed' and claimed it was a great 'effective and cheap' way to get 'amazing fitness results!'

Ms Itsines thanked her fans for their feedback on Instagram, saying 'I care about each and every one of you, of course I'm going to listen' and addressed multiple issues and how they were going to be fixed. 

'I want this experience to be perfect for you, the best fitness experience in the world!'

But not all the fans are convinced. 

'It's so disappointing when you idolise someone...she's turned her back on her community, and she's even started blocking people who are negative in comments, and deleting them!' The anonymous customer said.

Others said the app was freezing and frustrating to use. 

'There's so many glitches, it freezes, you have to lock in payments to view anything and you can get all of this from other free health and fitness apps...it's sad to see such an inspirational character fall into the line of greed,' one former fan wrote.

'This app crashes A LOT. Yesterday I was doing a workout and it froze on circuit 2, and you can't just skip to go back to where you are [sic],' another agreed. 

'I would never have thought she would do this...the new plan is basically the same so it's either pay for the same thing again or be left behind.' 

'Kim Kardashian's app is cheaper per month than Kayla's is per week!' 

'It's a slap in the face to her loyal fans,' another agreed.

Kayla Itsines told Daily Mail Australia she is looking forward to listening to customer feedback and says Sweat With Kayla is less than half the price of her previous products.

'The happiness of the BBG Community has and always will be, my #1 priority. I want their experience to be as positive as possible!' Ms Itsines told Daily Mail Australia. 

'I take their feedback, comments and concerns quite seriously and implemented a change in my previous members access to ‘Sweat With Kayla’ in under 24 hours. Their biggest concern was that as loyal consumers, they were unable to access the app without paying. 

'I want all of these women to be healthy, happy and for each of them to have a chance to try the app, whilst continuing to use the Bikini Body Guides if they wish. 

Ms Itsines says she had younger consumers in mind when she priced the product, explaining it only costs 'as much as a large coffee'.

'Sweat with Kayla’ is more than 50% cheaper than my previous products and this was a deliberate way of making the product more available to my younger consumers who are predominantly in University,' said Ms Itsines.

'Rather than paying an upfront fee, 'Sweat with Kayla' membership is merely the price of a large cup of coffee each week. This was feedback I took from the Bikini Body Guides. All reviews outside of this minor issue, have been phenomenal and extremely positive and I really look forward to evolving the product even further in the coming months.'
