A 19-year-old man and an unnamed 16-year-old have been charged in a Houston-area rape that made national headlines.

Clinton Onyeahialam, 19, is charged with sexual assault of a child in connection with the alleged rape of girl who identified herself as Jada at a house party in the 12500 block of Chessington near Stafford, according to the Houston Police Department.

Jada said she attended the party with three friends. There, she was offered a drink and taken upstairs. Jada said she didn't know what happened to her next until a week later when photos of her – eyes closed, dressed only from the waist up – began circulating on the internet.

In response, many social media users began posting mocking photos of themselves posed like Jada using the hashtag #jadappose on site like Twitter.

The cruel social media phenomenon drew strong rebuke from victims' rights advocates and others, including Quanell X, leaders of Houston's New Black Panther Party.

"What took place here is a criminal act," he said in a July press conference. "I want to see law enforcement treat this case with the type of sensitivity and priority that it deserves."

In addition to the arrest of Onyeahialam, police say a 16-year-old boy was referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation officials in connection to the allegations. His name and information about the case against him were not released because he is a juvenile.

The charge against Onyeahialam was filed Dec.4, according to Harris County court records.
