I cut my hair on Christmas day 2015. Partly due to a dye job gone bad and mostly to trichotillomania an anxiety disorder, this means I had pulled out almost 1/4 of my hair. It had flared up due to much stress after the summer. I needed to get the entire hair off.
Just before, a nice lady at Tech City UK had asked me if I wanted to be the face of the Tech Nation Visa, and I remember thinking, what a privilege. Later I thought, “my hair! I have to cancel” and decided to do it anyway in the New Year. My mother said I look like a boy.
People ask me, especially at immigration, on glancing at my BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) What is your exceptional talent? *Chuckles* Nigerian immigration asked if my exceptional talent was modelling *flattered!* ( I suspect my hair was the cause)
Working under the Tier 2 UK Visa scheme had been great but also treacherous as most of the managers I worked for, did not care about the challenges I faced. I needed a flexible environment to work in while getting (with help) out of the woods but it wasn’t possible.
When I looked at the Tier 1 Exceptional talent scheme not only would I be able to build a business in UK, and support other talent through skill building. I would have enough time and space to deal with my anxiety challenges without fear or judgement.
So I gave it a shot with nothing to lose.
Thank you TechCityUK.
One of my biggest discoveries in 2015 was the importance of NOW. Time. You only have today, make the best of it and use what you have with you right now. You will also become better at discerning which opportunities to take and which ones to ignore as your goals become clearer and sharper before you.
If you are considering applying for this visa, don’t hesitate to contact me. If you’d also like to talk, about anything, my emails and Skype are wide open.
The very best.
