The last photo of Nicole Simpson alive was taken as she proudly watched her son Justin, 5, graduate from kindergarten on June 8 – just four days before she was savagely slashed to death.
Nicole, 35, was wearing a black sleeveless dress that made her stand out from the crowd at the ceremony, held on the playground at Sunshine Pre School not far from her luxury condo in Brentwood.
“Nicole’s face lit up with joy when Justin’s name was called out and he stepped forward to get his diploma,” said Mina Shekarchian, 35, the mother of another student.
“She was smiling broadly and clapped as loudly as she could… Justin was having a great time as he sang children’s songs with the other kids. He was laughing, and from time to time he looked over at his mom and waved.”
When the one-hour ceremony ended, Justin ran over to his mom and gave her a kiss, recalled Mina, who was standing beside Nicole at the time.
“Nicole asked her son, ‘Honey, what do you want to do tonight? This is your day and your treat. Oh, I’m so proud of you, Justin!’
“And with that, she reached down and hugged him close.
“What a fitting way to remember Nicole. She was such a good mother: My eyes fill with tears when I think that the wonderful children she adored will never see her again.”
